A Handbook for Speaking the Story
Richard Littledale

This book encourages those who preach regularly but feel that their preaching has become stale. Richard Littledale takes a look at the craft of writing sermons and shows you how to reinvigorate your work.

Stale Bread introduces preachers to a kind of preaching that can be enriching for preacher and listener alike. Richard Littledale gives you the tools to bring home the real impact of the great Christian stories that have lost their punch through telling and re-telling.
Many preachers are interested in this technique, but are unsure how to learn it. Using incisive comment and clear explanation, the book should encourage readers to experiment further.

  • Brings excitement back to preaching
  • Brings to life the people and events of the Bible
  • How to use first, second and third-person voices in preaching
  • How and when to preach in this way – and when not to preach in this way!
  • Sample sermons are included and their strengths and weaknesses are analysed
  • Guidance on learning the techniques
  • Guidance on introducing these styles to congregations

Richard Littledale explores the straightforward and rewarding techniques, the strengths and weaknesses of narrative preaching and helps you decide how and when it would help you to bring a new freshness to your preaching.
